2001 Point West Way, Sacramento, CA
(916) 929-8855

Friday, August 19, 2011 11:45am -12:30pm, Grand Ballroom
PLENARY SPEAKER: “Food and Mood: The science behind the effects of food on mental health”
There is much evidence supporting the food-mood connection and there are some very exciting recent studies that support this for anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. It’s important to look at foods to eat and foods to avoid, as well as specific nutrients. An editorial in the American Journal of Psychiatry offered a very powerful comment on three recent food-mood studies: “It is both compelling and daunting to consider that dietary intervention at an individual or population level could reduce rates of psychiatric disorders. There are exciting implications for clinical care, public health, and research” (Freeman 2010, 245).  The goal of this presentation is to share specifics when it comes to dietary intervention.

Friday, August 19, 2011 4:00-5:30pm, Capitol Ballroom A
WORKSHOP SPEAKER: “Food and Mood: 9 Steps to Eliminate Anxiety, Stress, Social Phobia and Panic Attacks”.
These are the 9 steps that are covered in The Antianxiety Food Solution: How the Foods You Eat Can Help You Calm Your Anxious Mind, Improve Your Mood and End Cravings. We’ll cover real food, sugar and blood sugar, caffeine, gluten, digestion, brain chemistry, pyroluria, low vitamin D and lifestyle factors like exercise.  This will be a hands-on and very practical 1.5 hour workshop.

The Antianxiety Food Solution will be available for purchase afterwards and I’ll be doing book signings too.
