I\u2019m quite chuffed to see it\u2019s for a piece called \u201cAsk America\u2019s Ultimate Experts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I share tips about the benefits of a B- complex vitamin (for adrenal support), vitamin B6 (especially for PMS-type anxiety and worry, the calming amino acid called GABA, plus the mood-boosting and calming benefits of a grass-fed burger (loaded with zinc, iron and omega-3s) and pumpkin seeds as a snack (because they\u2019re rich in both tryptophan and zinc)<\/p>\n<p>Here are my tips from the article:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7345\" style=\"border: 1px solid #cccccc;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/tame-worry-article.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"868\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/tame-worry-article.png 600w, https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/tame-worry-article-170x300.png 170w, https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/tame-worry-article-580x1024.png 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>#1 Soothe with supplements<\/h2>\n<p>Here are some supporting articles and research for some of the above tips. A good B- complex vitamin for adrenal support has been shown to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/nutrition-solutions-psychological-stress-natural-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minimize psychological stress after a natural disaster<\/a>\u00a0and vitamin B6 (or pyridoxine) helps with PMS-type anxiety and worry.<\/p>\n<p>A paper titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/3256334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pyridoxine in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome: a retrospective survey in 630 patients<\/a>, reports the following results:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The daily doses of pyridoxine hydrochloride varied from 40 to 100 mg early in the study and from 120 to 200 mg in the later period of the investigations. The response to treatment was recorded as good (no significant residual complaints) in 40 per cent or more of patients taking 100-150 mg pyridoxine daily and in 60 per cent of patients treated with 160-200 mg daily. Together with partial response (useful benefit but still some significant complaints), the positive effect of the treatment increased to 65-68 per cent and 70-88 per cent respectively. No symptoms consistent with a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy were reported<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The calming amino acid called GABA helps with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/gaba-physical-tension-stiff-tense-muscles-type-anxiety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">physical-tension and stiff-and-tense-muscles type of anxiety<\/a>\u00a0and helps with worry and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/gaba-helps-inhibition-unwanted-thoughts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inhibition of unwanted thoughts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>#2 Tame worry with foods<\/h2>\n<p>Professor Felice Jacka, nutritional psychiatry researcher, discusses the mood-boosting and calming benefits of grass-fed beef (loaded with zinc, iron and omega-3s) on our Anxiety Summit interview: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/anxiety-summit-the-research-food-to-prevent-and-treat-anxiety-and-depression\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Research \u2013 Food to prevent and treat anxiety and depression?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pumpkin seeds are rich in tryptophan and zinc and research shows that a functional food made from these seeds actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18066139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helps with social anxiety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few minor discrepancies in the above sections:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In #1 dopamine is not a calming brain chemical but instead it\u2019s stimulating and helps with focus and motivation. The B vitamin mentioned contain folic acid whereas methyl folate is the preferred choice.<\/li>\n<li>In #2 the GABA product recommended is 500mg and I find starting much lower is a more effective approach with my clients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>#3 Cue calm \u2013 open a worry window<\/h2>\n<p>Opening a worry window is a new approach for me and I\u2019d love to hear if it helps you now or has helped you in the past.<\/p>\n<h2>Anti-anxiety gummies and low serotonin<\/h2>\n<p>Ali Miller, RD, shares a recipe for anti-anxiety gummies (you can see it in the PDF) and I love that it includes coconut water, ginger and turmeric. I\u2019d replace the cup of orange juice (which is high in sugar) with water and use 2 tablespoons instead. Be sure to watch that these gelatin gummies don\u2019t make your anxiety (or depression or sleep worse). It\u2019s a small amount of gelatin but if you\u2019re eating a lot of them and you\u2019re prone to low serotonin, this may be a problem for you. I write about this in a blog post here &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/collagen-gelatin-lower-serotonin-increase-anxiety-depression\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Collagen and gelatin lower serotonin: does this increase your anxiety and depression?<\/a>\u00a0If it does cause an adverse reaction it doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t eat them, instead it simply means you may need to take tryptophan when eating them (if low serotonin is the issue.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like a PDF of the article you can <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/trudyblog\/trudy-scott-womens-world-worry-article.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grab a copy here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d love to hear if any of these approaches have helped you or your clients\/patients.
