Studies also show that probiotics help when you are depressed or anxious.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Kombucha\u00a0<\/strong>is one example and another great one is\u00a0<strong>water kefir<\/strong>.\u00a0 And you can actually make them at home. I have to say\u00a0<strong>water kefir is my favorite<\/strong>\u00a0when it comes to home-made because it\u2019s so\u00a0<strong>quick and simple<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Here you go<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Dissolve 1\/3 cup sugar with filtered warm water in a clean one quart glass jar.\u00a0 I like to use turbinado or rapadura because they are not stripped of all their nutrients.<\/li>\n<li>Add water kefir grains (about 1 to 2 tablespoons)<\/li>\n<li>Add something to provide some flavor \u2013 I like ginger so I add 5-10 slices of freshly peeled ginger.\u00a0 Another option is a few mint leaves.<\/li>\n<li>Place in spot out of direct sunlight.<\/li>\n<li>Cover jar with a clean dish towel.<\/li>\n<li>Let sit for 24 hours to 30 hours or to your taste. If you aren\u2019t sure how it should taste, try some from someone else\u2019s batch or buy a bottle of plain kombucha\u2026it should taste similar to cider but less sweet.\u00a0 The length of time will differ depending on the room temperature too and will take less time when it\u2019s warmer.<\/li>\n<li>Strain water kefir grains from liquid and discard ginger or mint leaves<\/li>\n<li>Transfer liquid to another one quart glass jar and save in the fridge to start drinking<\/li>\n<li>Rinse grains and start over for an unlimited supply of delicious and nourishing water kefir loaded with probiotics or good bacteria!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A few other things<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t worry about the sugar<\/strong>\u00a0as it\u2019s mostly used up during the fermentation process<\/li>\n<li>Your kefir grains will actually\u00a0<strong>start to grow<\/strong>\u00a0so you can share them with friends \u2013 getting from grains from a friend is a good way to get started<\/li>\n<li>The grains\u00a0<strong>sort of look like very baby cauliflower florets<\/strong>\u00a0and should be kept cool when not being used<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"padding: 5px; text-align: left; font-family: Verdana,Geneva,Tahoma,sans-serif; color: #333333; font-size: 12px;\">\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drink fermented beverages\u00a0\u2013 they contain probiotics or good bacteria and are\u00a0great for your digestion!
