{"id":4520,"date":"2016-06-07T01:03:36","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T08:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/?p=4520"},"modified":"2016-06-07T01:03:10","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T08:03:10","slug":"coffee-hidden-anxiety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/coffee-hidden-anxiety\/","title":{"rendered":"The Anxiety Summit &#8211; Is Coffee Your Hidden Anxiety Trigger and How to Substitute It with Delicious and Healing Drinks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"center\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4651\" src=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Magdalena-Wszelaki_Anxiety4.png\" alt=\"Magdalena Wszelaki_Anxiety4\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Magdalena-Wszelaki_Anxiety4.png 300w, https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Magdalena-Wszelaki_Anxiety4-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Magdalena Wszelaki, founder of Hormones Balance,\u00a0was interviewed on the Anxiety Summit by host of <a title=\"as\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theAnxietySummit.com\" target=\"_blank\">the Anxiety Summit<\/a>, Trudy Scott, Food Mood Expert and Nutritionist, author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1572249250\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wwwantianxiet-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399349&amp;creativeASIN=1572249250%20\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Antianxiety Food Solution.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Is Coffee Your Hidden Anxiety Trigger and How to Substitute It with Delicious and Healing Drinks<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Caffeine, anxiety and panic attacks and our genetics<\/li>\n<li>How coffee impacts blood sugar and increases sugar cravings<\/li>\n<li>Coffee: the gut, adrenals, sex hormones and the thyroid<\/li>\n<li>Is decaf ok?<\/li>\n<li>How to use chicory, dandelion, carob and reishi as great alternatives<\/li>\n<li>Rooibos and tulsi\/holy basil as anti-stress herbal teas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some gems from our interview:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If you\u2019re having type 2 adrenal fatigue so that means sometimes it\u2019s s super high.\u00a0 Your adrenals are pumping out too much cortisol.\u00a0 Sometimes it\u2019s too low, sometimes it\u2019s just okay.\u00a0 You can get that done through testing \u2013 hormone testing, saliva testing with cortisol.\u00a0 The issue is that in times of low cortisol release you\u2019re going to be pretty brain dead and this is when we want to bring the cortisol level up with coffee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The problem is the adrenals are already exhausted and that\u2019s the reason why they are firing off with the wrong timing.\u00a0 Sometimes it\u2019s too high, sometimes it\u2019s too low.\u00a0 Women who have this \u201cI\u2019m tired and wired\u201d thing going on late at night where they\u2019re just lying in bed exhausted, can\u2019t fall asleep.\u00a0 That\u2019s very often adrenal fatigue stage 2 with higher cortisol levels at night.\u00a0 And so this is where coffee just exhausts your adrenals even further.\u00a0 So you might get that instant release as in like you\u2019re getting this clarity in your head.\u00a0 You\u2019re getting that energy to get through the day. But in the long term coffee is really going to just exhaust the adrenals to the maximum.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here are some of the studies on anxiety and coffee discussed in the interview:<\/p>\n<p>Caffeine can cause anxiety and panic attacks. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/20164571\" target=\"_blank\">This study<\/a> showed that people with panic disorder and social anxiety may be more sensitive to the anxiety-causing effects of caffeine.<\/p>\n<p>In this paper, <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.cambridge.org\/action\/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&amp;aid=4996824&amp;fileId=S003329170001117X\" target=\"_blank\">Caffeine abstention in the management of anxiety disorders<\/a>, the participants had generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder.\u00a0 They had been on medication and they\u2019d been on therapy and they drank one-and-a-half to three-and-a-half cups of coffee a day.\u00a0 None of them had benefitted from either the therapy or the medication.\u00a0 When they stopped the coffee within a week the anxiety disappeared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are additional studies we discussed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/10499460\" target=\"_blank\">Coffee and gastrointestinal function: facts and fiction. A review<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/7003600\" target=\"_blank\">Caffeine as an intensifier of stress-induced hormonal and pathophysiologic changes in mice<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajog.org\/article\/S0002-9378%2807%2902025-X\/abstract\" target=\"_blank\">Maternal caffeine consumption during pregnancy and the risk of miscarriage: a prospective cohort study<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/27112524\" target=\"_blank\">Caffeine and caffeinated beverage consumption and fecundability in a preconception cohort<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/24235903\" target=\"_blank\">Caffeine effects on sleep taken 0, 3, or 6 hours before going to bed.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/magdalena-roasted-chicory-latte-300x247.png\" alt=\"magdalena roasted chicory latte\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/magdalena-roasted-chicory-latte-300x247.png 300w, https:\/\/www.everywomanover29.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/magdalena-roasted-chicory-latte.png 414w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is Magdalena\u2019s recipe for<strong> ROASTED CHICORY ROOT LATTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Time to prepare: 15 minutes; Time to steep: 10minutes; Serves: 1; Equipment: blender<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 tbsp roasted chicory root<\/p>\n<p>2 cups water<\/p>\n<p>1 tbsp ghee, coconut butter or butter (if tolerated)<\/p>\n<p>1 pitted date<\/p>\n<p>fresh nutmeg (nut or powder)<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to make:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bring water to a boil, add chicory root and steep for 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Strain and transfer to a blender.<\/li>\n<li>Add the ghee (or any fat you decide to use) and the date.
