(photo taken by my wonderful friend and fellow nutritionist,   Robin Nielsen)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Do you crave sugar all the time, use willpower and feel deprived?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are your <strong>sugar cravings out of control<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are you the <strong>queen of willpower<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>sometimes<\/strong> \u2013 and then you slip up?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you <strong>feel guilty when you do slip up<\/strong> and indulge?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you <strong>feel deprived<\/strong> when you aren\u2019t eating sugar?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you <strong>feel awful when you are eating sugar<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Is <strong>sugar comforting<\/strong> for you and do you <strong>LOVE certain foods<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Does the mention of <strong>chocolate or ice-cream bring a smile<\/strong> to your face?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you find yourself <strong>substituting \u201chealthier\u201d sweeteners<\/strong> like agave, stevia, honey, dried fruits etc?\u00a0 (sugar is sugar! If you crave that sweet taste you have an issue \u2013 really!)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you use <strong>sugar for an energy pick-up<\/strong> and <strong>mood boost<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you <strong>eat sugar to calm<\/strong> down?<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you answer yes to at least three of the above questions<\/strong> then it\u2019s very probable that you have sugar and carb cravings that could be the result of one of the following:<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>what you eat<\/strong> \u2013 so skip the junk food, processed food and even healthy whole wheat bread if you have an intolerance to it. Eat real whole food instead.<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>when you eat<\/strong> &#8211; so don\u2019t skip breakfast and eat frequently enough to keep your blood sugar stable<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>how much protein you eat<\/strong> \u2013 have protein at breakfast and at each meal and snack (about a palm-sized portion at each meal)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>low zinc levels<\/strong> (which are very common) \u2013 assess and address with supplements and\/or a zinc-rich diet (red meat and oysters are a great source)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>burned out adrenals<\/strong> \u2013 do a saliva test to assess and address nutrient-wise, slow down and de-stress<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>low levels <\/strong>of certain <strong>neurotransmitters <\/strong>such as serotonin or endorphins \u2013 assess and address with the amazing amino acids like tryptophan, 5-HTP or DPA<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>candida and yeast infections<\/strong> \u2013 assess and get on an anti-candida program<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>toxins and pollution<\/strong> \u2013 do a detox at least twice a year<\/p>\n<p>The first place I often start with my <strong>sugar-addicted clients<\/strong> is with the <strong>amazing amino acids<\/strong> and they see really <strong>dramatic results in few days, often in 24 hours<\/strong>! And they have <strong>more energy and focus, <\/strong><strong>they sleep better, <\/strong><strong>their mood improves, <\/strong><strong>and worry and anxiety disappear<\/strong>.\u00a0 This way it\u2019s also so much easier to make all the food changes without it having to be a pure will-power thing and so you won\u2019t feel deprived. We do of course also address all the other possible causes, as a holistic approach is the way to go.<\/p>\n<p>If you address the root causes of your cravings then you <strong>won\u2019t have to use will-power<\/strong> (really!) and <strong>sugar becomes a \u201ctake it or leave it\u201d deal<\/strong> (really!) and <strong>you won\u2019t feel deprived<\/strong> (really!).<\/p>\n<p>If you need the support and guidance and are ready for this, contact me to set up a complimentary 15 minute consultation.
